The importance of the development of telecommunications infrastucture
in the modern economy is illustrated by the simple fact that the amount of information transmitted during the last 4 years is greater
than all that sent during the previous 2000 years. Alongside this exponential growth is the fact that one out of every two people on
our earth has never had access to a telephone.
These facts clearly show the formidable challenge of the development of
telecommunications infrastructure in developing countries.
While the developed world takes access to information for granted, and concentrates on the most efficient methods of sending and accessing
information, some countries remain totally excluded from this wealth of knowledge.
All sustainable development in developing countries will require the installation of modern and efficient telecommunications.
Sonema is able to make a contribution to this process by supplying its expertise in regions isolated from the main information highways. |
Could you outline for me the activities of Sonema?
Sonema is above all a
service company in which all employees apply their creativity and determination to best serve the interests
of our clients and partners. Our mission is to supply all our clients with the same level of
telecommunications services
that they would have at their disposal in developed countries.
For example, we supply
GSM connections, high speed internet,
fax services and access to the most specialised global networks, such as Western Union, to isolated regions in the heart of Africa.
We find the
solution best adapted to the needs of each of our clients without pre-determining the technology, and using the most modern
equipment.
We guarantee to supply
a high quality service by means of
permanent supervision and our
network surveillance tools.
Our teams are committed to offering their best efforts and know-how.
Sonema is successful and is even increasing its market share, despite competition from other much larger international
companies. How do you explain this success?
First of all, we have chosen a market niche of the telecommunications industry in which we can successfully compete, by providing the highest
levels of service and technology.
In contrast to more generalist operators,
we adapt our services to the requirements of our client and provide him with solutions which
match his needs.
We guarantee the continual
flexibility and dedication of our teams in servicing our clients wherever they are, in conflict zones or difficult
territories, such as Kosovo, the Congo, Afghanistan or the Ivory Coast.
In addition, we have been able to create
a network of reliable and well-trained partners who support our activities in all the countries
where we have installations.
Could you tell us more about your policy of developing partnerships?
Today, Sonema has approximately
300 installations in 20 different countries, in Eastern Europe, the Middle East and in Africa.
Our need for
local partners is an indispensible part of our business growth, in order to maintain
local services.
We have therefore developed
solid partnerships with dynamic and detirmined companies, known locally for the quality of their customer
services. We have established
a policy of continual training, welcoming partners from all countries into our teams in Monaco.
We share all our methods with our partners, implicating them in the sustainable development of our business.
Rather than relying entirely on our own knowledge and technology, we are confident that, instead of copying us, our partners will join with us
in our development of new solutions.
With their support, we have been able to develop new markets, providing telecommunications solutions to assist in the sustainable
development of local populations,
bringing the most modern technology to the least developed areas.
