InfoSecurity Europe 2018 took place in London from the 5th to the 7th June. Increasingly popular, this event brings together over 400 international exhibitors every year. InfoSecurity Europe is the opportunity for the information security community to come together and exchange ideas during a week of presentations, demonstrations, conferences, workshops and training sessions.

Major industry trends noticed during this year’s event were:

  • General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR): Almost all the participants brought up the subject of data protection with regards to the application of GDPR on the 25th May. Vendors are now focused on managing identity, access and GDPR compliance.
  • Ransomware: Despite the fact that Ransomware has received less media attention in 2018, protecting company data from this type of attack (eg Petya, Locky etc) is still a major concern for the industry. New anti-ransomware solutions are now available on the market including antiviruses which use AI, for example automatic application whitelisting for businesses.
  • Cloud security: Although some vendors seem undecided about “on-premises” solutions, cloud application security is still a key issue for many vendors and managed services providers.
  • Security information and event management (SIEM): With an ever-increasing number of security solutions available on the market, the exhibition has seen an increase in the number of exhibitors presenting SIEM solutions (log and event management for all security platforms, plus network and IT tools) The increasing interest in these solutions has lead to greater competition between vendors which in turn has lead to cost optimisation for this type of platform.

The next edition of InfoSecurity Europe will take place from the 4th to the 6th June 2019.
